Containing a massive 9kg drum and working at spin speeds of 1400, it can wash large amounts of clothes rather fast and thus reduce the overall washes made per month. A distinctive design characteristic of it is its filter, located ideally on the front, making its replacement easier than ever. Its practical drain pipe allows for fast water disposal before the filter’s removal, thus saving time and irritation for its fortunate user. Installation Installation is pretty simple, even for an amateur plumber, but better play it safe and ask a professional to ensure proper installation. Display The read display on Bosch WAT28371GB is nice and easy to read. It is also equipped with a handy dial that simplifies managing and programme selection. Through it, you gain immediate access to washing temperatures, and you also have an option of a 24-hour time delay, thus being able to make the most of Eco wash during the night or have your washing ready and done with the moment your return home from another obligation or house chore.
The VarioPerfect technology First of all, we have to mention the VarioPerfect technology, innovative and rather handy addition to all Bosch’s latest models: this feature allows the user to pick his or her priority among time or energy. If you are pressed for time, you simply set the washing machine to the SpeedPerfect mode, and you will be able to wash a full load of laundry in less than 60 minutes. If, on the other hand, you prefer to help the environment and reduce of the overall cost of your energy bills, just switch the mode to the EcoPerfect, and you will save as much as 50% energy, without compromising the washing quality. The Vario Soft/ Vario Drum Another ingenious feature of this particular washing machine is its Vario soft/ Vario drum and its advanced droplet-shaped structure. Its elaborate design ensures an efficient yet very gentle washing, which will protect the fibre of your more delicate pieces of clothing. The Speed Perfect Option Last, you have the ‘Speed Perfect’ button, which reduces the washing time of certain programmes as much as 40%, making ideal for working moms who are always pressed for time.
With no less than 15 different washing programmes, you are certainly not short of options with this one. Their sheer number makes flexibility and adaptability one of WAT28371GB’s most competitive traits, allowing you to tailor the washing process to certain textiles, fibre colours, washing needs etc. Even more impressive are its set of interior sensors, designed to detect a smaller load of clothes inside the drum and adjust the machine’s washing operation and water consumption and, hence, save money from your water bill. One of these programs deserves highlighting. The ‘Quick Wash’ cycle requires no more than 15 minutes, making it perfect for clothing that need no more than refreshing. Moms and dads with babies and toddlers will certainly love this one. Note also its rather useful mixed load cycle, designed for washing at low temperatures, negating any need for separating your colours and lights. The cotton wash is excellent at temperatures between 20 and 90 degrees – just perfect for whites washing.
Warranty & Energy
The Bosch WAT28371GB comes with a 2-year guarantee on parts and labour. With an energy classification of A*** and even lower water consumption, this particular model is not just made for rough work, but for the economy too.
Pros & Cons
The Bosch WAT28371GB 1400 Spin Washing Machine certainly lived up to our expectations and its manufacturer’s repute in the field. Impressive size, certainly proper only for big families, great looks combined with ease of use, as well as several features that allow the owner to cut down drastically on his or her energy and water bills. Looking and feeling great to use, it rises to rather high standards on almost any given aspect. Exquisite functionality at a very reasonable price, it surely deserved the first place in our top five washing machines list for 2019.

With a maximum load capacity of 8 kilograms, it is destined to serve the needs of large households that need to save time, energy and money. All bulky washing machines are suspected for being noisy, but not this one. You can use it through the night without noticing a thing. Build-wise, you won’t find anything out of the ordinary here. Standard casing and design, with AEG’s looks creativity being exhausted in the upper front panel. The LED screen is easy to read, and the controls are pretty straightforward. Robust and well balanced, it will fit easily in a place with the help of a couple of friends. Installation is pretty simple too.
Let us move now to things more important – i. e. the AEG L7FEE865R most distinguished features. First of all, this particular model has time-saving as its top priority. Using the delay start option, you may postpone the start of a wash for up to 24 hours, which basically means that you can schedule its conclusion at the time that suits you best. SoftPlus Technology The SoftPlus technology was designed to ensure that the softener indeed covers every inch of your clothes, thus guaranteeing a softer, silkier and smoother texture, much friendlier for your skin and easier to iron. ProSense Technology The ProSense technology is a nice set of features that, collectively, prolong the life of your clothing’s textiles and preserve their brightness and colours. What it basically does is weigh each washing load automatically and then adjust the washing time respectively, thus ensuring the best possible treatment for each textile and garment. ProTex Gentle Drum As already mentioned, the AEG L7FEE865R is equipped with a ProTex gentle drum which provides extra protection for your clothes. The steam produced refreshes the creased clothes, and combined with the gentle steam programme; it eradicates any unpleasant smells in dry fabrics – apparently resulting in much less ironing. Child Protection Last, a special child safety lock is mounted, designed to avert any risk of a toddler or child messing around with your preferred settings and programmes.
The AEG L7FEE865R has 10 different programmes, providing adaptability and tailored settings for all basic types of clothes, including
- wool plus,
- steam refresh,
- quick 20-minute,
- new outdoor,
A couple of them actually deserve some additional comments. The wool programme, for example, ensures minimal agitation for even the most delicate woollen fibres. The ECO TimeSave programme allows you to couple ECO with specific time-saving options, thus cutting down on energy cost and saving time too.
Warranty & Energy
The AEG L7FEE865R comes with a rather impressive 5-year guarantee – which you seldom find for washing machines of such load capacity. Its energy efficiency rating is A+++ – excellent, especially after considering its features.
Pros & Cons
Durable and almost silent, the AEG L7FEE865R washing machine will undoubtedly cater to the washing needs of big families and parents that wish to spend as little time as possible in ironing.
3. Miele WDB030 Eco Freestanding Washing Machine
Our third pick for our list makes durability its main goal. Designed for couples and small families, Miele’s WDB030 promises to withstand regular and harsh use not just for years, but for decades, promising excellent long-term performance. Energy efficient and with surprisingly high-performance standards, Miele WDB030 has 12 wash programmes and a time delay function. Another great feature is the AutoClean detergent dispenser drawer, which gets thoroughly rinsed and to remove excess detergents and residue. The price is also a pleasant surprise, at least for a Miele washing machine.

- Dimensions: [Width] 59.6 cm X [Depth] 63.6 cm X [Height] 85 cm
- Load Capacity: 7kg
- Energy Efficiency Rating: A+++
- Maximum Spin Speed: 1400
With a height of 85 centimetres, the width of 60, and 63 centimetres deep, WDB020 is easy to handle and will easily fit even a medium-sized bathroom or washroom. Overall build quality does justice to Miele’s exceptional repute. Featuring a 7 kilograms’ load capacity, the WDB020 caters for the needs of two to three people, maybe two adults and one child. The usual metallic casing, with a nice grey-washed finish in the drum door and a clear-cut display, is all that should be mentioned looks-wise. More interesting is the AutoClean detergent dispenser drawer, which gets automatically and thoroughly rinsed to ensure the removal of excess detergents and residue. On the other hand, it is not as quiet as other picks in our list, but we should expect one or two drawbacks that would account for the relatively low price. Besides, the noise is far from annoying, and most of us would not even notice during the night, even if it operated in the next room.
Featuring 12 different wash programmes, this particular model covers all basic types of clothing. True, programme choice is a bit limited, but the whole machine is so simple and easy to use, that, combined with other well-studied features, such as Miele’s CapDosing, it will surely meet your expectations for great washing, without causing damage to the textile or colours of your garments, pile or ladder them. If we should mention a programme or two, then Express 20 is our obvious choice. It is just ideal for those who need a speedy wash, wielding amazing results for small loads in a little more than 15 minutes. Spin speed is good – not the best, but it will do for small families and bachelors. What surprised us, in a good way, is the very low water required for standard washing. In fact, this trait makes up for the Eco feature, which could use an upgrade. To be sure, when half loaded the WDB020 is not as efficient, but why half load it anyway? Even if you must from time to time, it should be a rare occurrence, since it increases the cost of the energy used, detergent and water consumption.
Warranty & Energy
Miele’s WDB020 comes with a 2-year warranty, and it has been rated with an A+++ in terms of energy efficiency.
Pros & Cons
Well-studied for small households the WDB020 certainly lives up to Miele’s history and reputation for efficiency and top results – and at a surprisingly affordable price. Drawbacks are there, but nothing that could destroy our enthusiasm for its ease of use and functionality.
Taking it down a notch in terms of energy efficiency (A++), the Indesit My Time EWD 81482 combines great, but almost contradicting traits. With a 1,400rpm spin and a quite large 8kg machine, it can be yours for less than £250. Pretty quiet and equipped with a sensor load adjustment and an array of washing programs, it will be ready and done with your laundry in around 60 minutes. Something is wrong, here, right? There must be a serious flaw or drawback in it to explain such a price. Well, actually there isn’t! Indeed, it will cost more to operate, both energy- and water-wise, compared to the other picks of our list, and its half-load performance is not so impressive, but it will live up to your expectations in washing moderately sized loads. Let us take a closer look.

Nice and compact, the EWD 81482 is one of the prettiest freestanding washing machines in the market today. Indesit is not famed for its hard-celled washing machines, but this one is pretty sturdy and meets the eye for durability and long life. The standard white metallic colour, a decent digital display, and a robust drum door are all you get design-wise – but it also is all you need! The almost retro knob controls (controlling programme selection, temperature and maximum spin speed) tie well with the advanced LCD. You will also find three buttons, corresponding with the delay timer, and the Extra Wash and Energy Saver features. Knobs are not so easily handled as buttons and leave rooms for mistakes, so added caution is required when selecting your preferred programme. Moving to the drum door, we find the first serious issue: both the porthole and the door are a bit small to load an 8-kilogram laundry bundle; a 7-kilogram load seems much more fitting. So, just substitute 8 with 7 if you don’t want to be disappointed. Considering its prize, one of the things that surprised is its hardly audible operation. In fact, it is much quieter than several much pricier washing machines. This, of course, does not mean it is silent; but it surely will not bother you, even during serene summer nights.
The load sensor feature, designed to balance the use of water and detergent, weighs the load of clothes and tailors water and electricity consumption to it. The LCD and LED indicators will help you monitor the whole process and schedule other tasks. In all, provided the load be around 6.5 kilograms, the EWD 81482 will prove quite simple and easy to handle. Washing programmes are Indesit’s EWD 81482 undisputable strong point. Boasting a range of 16 different programmes, including Cotton 40°, Cotton 60° and Wool, it will cater for all sorts of clothes and affords the user excellent control of the wash time, hence that aptly addition “My Time” to the model’s name. Everyday Fast programmes cover Mix Coloureds and Cottons, both coming in around 50 to 60 minutes, which is exceptionally fast for washing machines of an A++ energy efficiency rating.
Warranty & Energy
Granted, it does not rise to the highest energy efficiency rating, but an A++ energy billing, which actually lives up to its classification, is not bad at all. The overall burden on your energy bill will be almost insignificant, provided you use it moderately. Now the warranty is the best you can get! Indesit’s EWD 81482 comes with an impressive 10-year guarantee on all parts, which, combined with Indesit’s excellent fame in customer support, is a great advantage.
Pros & Cons
To sum it up, Indesit’s EWD 81482 is an excellent value-for-money option, provided you buy it as 7 kg washing machine and not an 8 one. Its wealth of programmes, robust build, fast and decent washing and high (if not optimum) energy efficiency left us no choice but to include it our 5 top washing machines for 2019.
Those among you reading our top-something lists and make their picks before reaching the last one should know you have missed some great bargains, and our current list is no exception. Another great option from the A+++ range, and from a great Brand too, Whirlpool’s aptly named Supreme Care FSCR12441 is one of the greatest combinations of washing features and elegant looks. Mastering wash loads of as much as 12 kilograms and integrating all of the Brands latest innovations, the only dark spot one may find in our last washing machine is its price – not in the least unreasonable though!

A mere glance and this one instantly captures your attention with its modern design and elegant display and controls. If you get intimidated by technology and are afraid of looks that seem complicated, you certainly shouldn’t in this case. The handy symbol buttons corresponding to all 16 wash programmes, with several configuring options beneath and a fairly-sized LCD panel offering a remarkable amount of details make use more than straightforward: in a blink of an eye, you get the name of the programme you licked, its corresponding maximum load capacity, temperature, spin speed and all sorts of graphics that help you determine whether this is indeed your best option! If it is, then you just push the button and let it roll! A massive drum capable of handling 12 kilograms of dirty laundry is nicely coupled with an equally big porthole and door – so, in this case, you can take 12 for its nominal value, but we wouldn’t recommend fully loading it. A wash load of around 10 – 11 kilograms will always wield much better results. Upon opening the monster, it stainless steel drum get illuminated with an elegant white LED lighting, making tossing in and picking out clothes (even tiny underwear!) very easy! We could use a spin speed bigger than 1400rpm – in fact, we would expect at this price -, but that is ok. In Whirlpool’s defence, the recently designed traction motor mounted in the drum’s rear affords performance and efficiency equal to that of a 1600 rpm spin rate, and with less energy too. Note that there are no printed programme details in the detergent drawer – the display far outweighs any need for it. As soon as you pull it out, you will see the separate reservoirs for soap and fabric conditioner. You shouldn’t worry much about quantities: Whirlpool’s sensors technology will automatically weigh the load, assess the condition of the clothes and pour in the optimum combination of both, saving you a lot of money in the long run. Whirlpool has strived to make this one quieter than an empty church hall, and it came very close too! Substituting the conventional belt drive with a traction motor afforded much less vibration and noise, even when loaded to the full.
Let us start this section with the more impressive yet less important feature: the ability to use your smartphone to manage the washing programme controls and configuration of referred sets, auto-dosing, wash scheduling, alerts, and several other features. Even more striking is its capability of synchronising the washing machine with Whirlpool’s matching dryer, the HSCX10441, allowing the user to programme the dryer depending on the last washing cycle automatically! Washing results were outstanding in all given challenges – which hardly surprised us. We were also in a position to confirm Whirlpool’s aforementioned claim that the 1400 spin speed will prove as efficient as other 1600 spin speed models! Bear in mind that reducing the reducing the wash load will not further lessen the energy consumption, so feel free to choke it!
You will find the programme list divided into everyday programmes accompanied by eight special cycles. You can access the main programmes directly through their corresponding buttons, and the wash cycles by a scrollable display menu. A few words about the most important of them are in order. The Eco-Cotton programme is by far the best since it delivers excellent results with the least energy consumption. The only problem with it is its long duration – when the drum is fully loaded that is. If you schedule it when you are out for home, though, it should not be a problem. Smaller and less dirty bundles require of course less time. The Mixed and Colours programmes worked fine, especially when combined with the Synthetic and the Delicate cycles – but in much lighter loads. Other standard options include:
- a Pre-wash,
- Heavy Soil,
- Intensive Rinse
- And, of course, the Rapid mode, for really fast refreshing.
Note that this model has an inimitable Hot Finish option, designed to relax the textile during the washing, by using warm water for the final rinsing. When clothing comes out warm, it dries faster and can be ironed easier. The Bio Stains 15 does the opposite, for different reasons of course: it adds cold water in the pre-wash phase to facilitate the eradication of stubborn stains. The Colours 15 is optimised for lightly soiled coloured clothing, using cold water throughout the wash cycle, thus preserving the colours’ vivid bright. Other programmes include cycles optimised for specific pieces of clothing, such as Shirts, Duvets, Cashmere, Bed Linen, Sports garments and towels, Jeans and Baby Items. The 1-kg Mini Load, on the other hand, is exclusively for emergency washouts, when time presses and your wardrobe has no other options. The list of washing options closes with the Rinse Hold, a Finish timer and a key lock function.
Warranty & Energy
Let us start with the latter since the energy cost of this gargantuan washing machine is what amazed us the most! It recorded the lowest overall annual energy consumption – a mere 115kWh per year! Takin into account the fact that we deal with a drum that can be loaded with 11 – 12 kilograms of laundry, its performance is even more important. Ah, all these though apply only when you make good use of the Eco programme! If you don’t, do expect a far more elevated cost – which is, of course, expectable.
Pros & Cons
We cannot hide it, can we? This last one if our favourite! And if it was not for the price, it could easily occupy the whole article by itself! Extremely low running cost, smart features making your life easier, pioneering smartphone technology and excellent washing results if with the stubbornest cases – what more can one ask for his or her washing machine. And with a monstrous drum of over 11 kilograms, 16 washing programs and a next to silent operation, the price ceases to be so frightening! A genuine king among ruler!
